Leaving the Cat5e Patch Panels Open Ruined the Coax Cables
Running lots of coax cables in the basement of an office building was the last thing I thought I would be doing on a Friday afternoon. I was hoping to get off early when my boss called with the news that I needed to get over to the grey office building where I was last week because they had an emergency. It seems all of the network system shut down and they could not operate. I got there as soon as possible and found that someone had left all the cat5e patch panels open which allowed moisture to get into the connectors of the coax cables. I ripped out the coax cables that were affected instead of making new ends and connectors because it was easier. I made the connections and spliced them together in twelve different cat5e patch panels before firing the system back up. I ran upstairs to make sure everything was operating as it was meant to and then I went back down to wrap up all the old coax cables and to get the heck out of there. As I was driving back to the shop thinking about the weekend I realized I had left all the cat5e patch panels open which is what caused the problem to begin with. I was mad at first but then I just laughed it off. I turned around and closed all the cat5e patch panels up and sealed them to keep out the moisture.
